Politics Fab| Vernon Jones riding Barack's Coat Tail

From the Atlanta Journal Constitution: DeKalb County (Georgia) CEO and U.S. Senate candidate Vernon Jones has mailed “thousands” of flyers across the state bearing an image of himself and Obama holding microphones in front of a campaign crowd with the headline: “Yes We Can!” At first glance, it appears the two men are at the same campaign event. But they are not. The photo of Jones was digitally joined with one of Obama. Jones acknowledged that his campaign combined the photos, but said he wasn’t trying to mislead anyone. His Democratic opponents immediately accused him of implying he has been endorsed by Obama, an idea quickly shot down by Obama’s campaign. “The Obama campaign was not involved with the use the Senator Obama’s picture in this mailer, and despite what this mailer inaccurately suggests, Senator Obama will not endorse a candidate in the U.S. Senate primary in Georgia,” said Amy Brundage, a Chicago-based Obama spokeswoman. She declined further comment. “Absolutely not,” Jones said in a telephone interview Thursday afternoon. “What it does say is that Obama and I share a vision for a new America.” He added: “Obama and I represent the future of Georgia and America. We want to balance the budget, create jobs, provide affordable and accessible health care and prevent folks from losing their homes.” Oh Vernon...

Usher and Little Usher do Essence

Usher and Baby Cinco (Usher V) covers the August 2008 issue of Essence Magazine. In the feature he shoots down the rumors surrounding the firing of his mom and defends his marriage (yet again) to Tameka Foster: On Fatherhood: “He’s gonna admire me, he’s gonna look up to me. He’s gonna say, ‘I wanna be’ or he should say - ‘I wanna be like my father.” On His Marriage: “They think that it was forced. I’ve heard a lot of comments like, “Oh, she trapped him.” “He got a baby by her, and then she’s married and she’s set for life.” “No. She wasn’t pregnant when I asked her to marry me. There’s some sort of huge conspiracy over this, the fact that I made these choices in my life. No I grew older. As a man, I have to take responsibility and take a hold of my life. I’m accountable for what happens to my life now.” Source: NB

Young Jeezy Covers Vibe Magazine

"Young Jeezy was left unimpressed after appearing on TV alongside U.S. Republican presidential hopeful JOHN McCAIN - branding the politician a “fraud”. The 30 year old, real name Jay Jenkins, appeared with McCain on U.S. TV show Saturday Night Live in May, and questioned the politician about his policies and how they would help improve America. But the hip-hop star wasn’t convinced by McCain’s answers, and is choosing to champion Democrat leader Barack Obama instead. He says, “I told [John McCain] the ‘hood was f**ked up, and he was like, ‘How you doing?’ (It was) real talk. They know entertainers, so they shake your hand (and say), ‘I’m your friend.’ But my mama is about to have surgery that I gotta pay for out of my pocket because she can’t get insurance. “I don’t really feel McCain. It ain’t just because Barack is black; he canmake change. Just like Bush equals recession, Barack equals progression. I really feel that.” Source: Bossip

Recap: Greek Weekend Party at the Atrium

Submitted by Waverly "Twin"
ATLFab! Correspondent
Calling all Greeks!!!! (at least those covered in Purple, Gold, and Crimson) was the message Friday at Atrium nightclub. The line was ridiculously long and almost every Black Frat and Sorority chapter in the Southeast was in attendance. (Photo Credit: Facebook) Note to partygoers: If you see the line creeping around the block, know that it'll probably be the same case at the bar so pregame accordingly. Needless to say, the line was actually one of the best parts of the party. Drunken girls we've never seen before screamed "Ahh twins!!!" and made for very interesting conversation :) The club hit everybody in the pockets for 30 along with the ridiculous $20 valet parking The only thing cheap that night was the raggedy ass venue. The Atrium screams FIRE HAZARD!!! The two-room club was packed with frats strolling through the party and groups of people complaining about the heat...mind you, those same people decided to stay in the club instead of leave. I guess the highlight of the night involved fraternity brothers and sorority sisters rushing the stage.... at some point. It was all quite confusing. As usual I was semi-lit at the party, and proceeded to act on my Friday Night "grab-a-big-girl-on-the-dance-floor-and-make-her-feel-special" ritual. After about two sweltering hours we left the party....and the line was still wrapped around the block. IT WAS 2AM! The Atrium was all in all an experience. It certainly wasn't the spot to be if you wanted to chat and meet new people; but it was the mecca for people watching that night. I guess the only downside to MY night was drunkenly getting out of my car leaving the door WIDE open and realizing my ipod and camera were gone the next morning :(

Harlem Nights at Atlanta's Harlem Bar

When in doubt, go to Harlem Bar. I know it's not a well-known saying, but it should be. Kaluskie couldn't decide what to do last night, and I had friends in for the infamous Atlanta Greek Picnic Weekend. Atlantic Station was strangely morbid last night. And although Uncle Luke was in town, I wasn't trying to "Doo-Doo Brown" with any Diamond Princesses or Hood Misses last night. So what did I do? I took my friends to Harlem Bar, located at 262 Edgewood Ave. N.E., Atlanta. Check out the video of the Thursday night scene at Harlem Bar...

Chris Brown Concert at Chastain Park July 5th

Fourth of July weekend isn't looking too bleak. Although I'll be sitting on the beach in Nantucket, you might want to catch Chris Brown Live in Concert on July 5, 2008, 7:00pm, at the Chastain Park Amphitheater, 4469 Stella Drive.
I remember the last time I saw this guy perform. He was 16, I think, and he (get this) opened up for Trey Songs in a free concert sponsored by Cingular Wireless , (now known as AT&T Wireless). Don't get any ideas though. The concert was free and it happened to be the only thing to do on Morehouse College's campus that day. Anything to ramp up that BLEAK freshman experience. I digress... (Photo Credit: www.wdkx.com) Get ready to break open those piggy banks kiddies. If you want to get the up close and personal CB Experience, you'll have to fork up the dough, to the sweet tune of $180+, and that's just according to the discount websites. I guess you COULD buy the general admission tickets, but I wouldn't suggest that. The officials at the Chastain Park Ampitheater have banned lawn chairs, coolers, and anything else that would possibly make your el-cheapo ticket experience, a good one. Hopefully he brings that "Island Princess" of his...

J3 Entertainment and Prophecy has teamed up to bring you 4Play Fridays at Noir, 264 Peters St. Last time I was there, it took me close to 45 mins to get a drink and I couldn't even turn around without knocking into someone. But it seems as though I'm not the only one who had that problem because the Grown and Sexy gods have blessed the management at Nior with the brain cpapcity to understand the problem as well. What do I mean? Noir has been renovated! So show up tonight and see how long you have to wait in line for the restroom this time.

EVERYONE IS FREE ALL NIGHT LONG. Happy Hunting...

STLtoday.com confronts Morehouse College's alledged gay bias

(Graduates of the Morehouse College class of 2008)
As an alum of this great institution, I was a bit confused when I ran across this article yesterday. STLtoday.com released an article stating that Morehouse College " has struggled to determine how homosexuality fits within that definition;" that definition referring to the definition of a Morehouse Man. I'll reserve my comments for later, but what do you all think? Here's the link to the article.

Shorty Lo is called out at the Thug Awards in Atlanta.

I didn't know that the Thug Awards existed...but this IS Atlanta so I'm not too surprised. Here's a clip, courtesy of blogxilla.com, with Griffy 2k of Hot 107.9 urging Shorty Lo to stop the beef. And of course, Shorty Lo grabs the mic and makes another foolish statement.

Bow Wow Joins Entourage

Did y'all here that Bow Wow will be joining the cast of Entourage? I mean...he wasn't bad in his role in Roll Bounce so I'm kinda waiting to see how this will pan out... Apparently, Bow Wow scored a recurring role in season five when he plays a stand-up comedian who E takes on as a client. Sweet.

Jayms Madison: She's Got Your Room Service...and Much More...

Sit back. Boy relax. Place a napkin on your lap. I've got your order for ya babe. Tell me where you like it at...
Jayms Madison introduces you to her world of sultry seduction through her vocal prowess in "Room Service." ATLiens, I had the extreme pleasure of interview Ms. Madison and here's what she had to tell ATLFab!... K: At what age did you know that you wanted to be a singer? JM:I don't really know what age I decided to get into music professionally but I was pretty focused once I hit junior high. I was sort of the local entertainer of my neighborhood. If someone couldn't remember my name, they'd just call me "the singer". I guess that helped seal my fate. K: Who would you say has influenced your vocal style? JM: Wow; so many people! Prince, Tina Turner, Dakota Staton, Minnie Ripperton...The list goes on and on. I'm easily influenced musically. Believe it or not, a lot of things I do with my voice were inspired by electric guitar riffs... K: After listening to "Lost Your Mind," I defintely hear the electric guitar inspiration. But I have to ask, what's your favorite city on the East Coast? JM: New York, naturally! No place like it. Don't get me wrong, every city has its own flair; but you know I'm a "Sex and the City" kind of gal. K: Well, ATLFab! wants to know when you plan on stopping by Atlanta? JM: I plan on coming as often as the ATLiens would like me to. I love everything about the "A" and its culture. I was out there for a performance on the 24th of April... K: Tell me this...do you write all of your songs or do you let the ghost writers do their thing? JM: I write a majority of my music and I love collaborating with other writers I respect every now and then. Its kind of like cooking. The more you play with the seasonings, the more you find spectacular flavors. K: Mmm...something smells good! What's the first thing people say when they hear your music? JM: I get a lot of comparisons to Tweet and Beyonce. I mean that really makes me feel good considering I respect them both so much. K: Be your own critic just for a second... JM: Hmm...well I guess the one weak spot I need to work on is calming my vibrato and learning how to turn it off and on. It's really hard sometimes but it's not always appropriate. I could work on my water drinking....I really hate water. It's odd I know but its honest. I have a thing for iced teas and grapefruit juice. Thats it; I don't wanna give all my secrets away...
K: I bet all that iced tea you drink in New York can't compare to the sweet tea here in the Dirty South. Ok, ok final question...What makes you FABULOUS? JM: Oh my...well I can't put my finger on any one thing. I'd hate to limit myself. Maybe everyone should stay tuned and decide for themselves ;) Check out her MYSPACE PAGE for music, videos and more of Jayms Madison...
